Charming Travelers Winner!

Hi, Everyone!

Thanks for playing in the giveaway! I already let the winner know, but Mr. R#. Generator choose contestant #3 - Melissa! I appreciate everyone taking the time to comment, and I'll look into hosting another fun giveaway soon.

My weekend highlight was finding out that the bee blocks I thought I'd lost were in fact not lost at all and someone else had taken them home and just not said anything about it. (This was frustrating but good because that meant I could stop making those blocks!) :D

Tomorrow is the LA Modern Quilt Guild Meeting and I'm very excited! I'm going to actually bring a quilt to show - even though I'm quite intimidated by the level of talent in that room... I'll post a picture of my finished project this week so you all can see it too!

Have a great Monday. :)

Happy Sewing.

  2. I'm excited to be the grand prize winner!! :)

But I want to say something to you, Elisabeth, and to everyone who might read this comment. And I mean it from the bottom of my what-in-the-sam-hill-am-I-doing heart...

Way, way, way back in March 2010, when I went to my very first LA MQG meeting, carrying my wonky log cabin blocks, standing among the GIANTS of the modern quilt world, I was intimidated, too. VERY intimidated. Yes, Alissa showed a quilt. Yes, Lauren showed a bee quilt with blocks made by Latifah and Alissa and I don't know who else. Jamie got up there. Ramona got up there. Liberty got up there... It was all gorgeous and amazing and beyond words fabulous. And then it was my turn to get up there and I was super intimidated!! But I got up and showed my blocks, and I asked for advice, and I learned lots of great things that night! And I'm glad I did it. :)

And the thing is, (I'm looking in your eyes for effect, here) the thing is -- YOUR quilt is going to inspire someone else, someone new, someone who hasn't figured out the difference between wonky and improv yet. Someone who needs to be reassured that not everyone in the LAMQG is a book author, or a "famous" quilter, or making money for their work. YOUR quilt is going to make someone feel good inside and feel like maybe she can be a modern quilter, too. YOUR quilt is going to impress the "talent" in the room.

YOU are part of the talent in the room, Elisabeth. I mean that. You are a great quilter, and you shouldn't feel intimidated by anyone there. We all rip out seams. We all catch fabric on the bottom of our quilts. We all try new things and think it looks like crap at first, then fall in love with it. :) We all started at the same place, and are slowly getting better.

Remember that. When you get up to show your quilt tomorrow, not only will the experienced quilters see it and love it, but also the newbies. You are there to inspire and encourage a newbie. :) Be proud of your work. ;)

I wish I could be there! (Can't wait for July!)

  3. Okay, so I finally had a few minutes to look through the charms and I love almost all of them! There are only about 10 that I'll send to the next person -- and some of those were just duplicates, not icky! :)

I was trying to register on the map on From Blank Pages, but don't know if it is the Red pack or the Blue pack. Do you know?

  4. Dear Elisabeth!
Thank you so much for my Covert Robin gift! It arrived today and I love the spring colours you used on the pillow case! I wish that one day I'll be able to do free motion as neatly and clean as you :)
Many greetings to Cali from Germany!!
    xx
